SESSION 1: TAKING STOCK OF PHILIPPINE MANUFACTURING PERFORMANCE
The manufacturing sector has been a major driver of the country’s economy, posting a sustained above 6% quarterly growth rate from 2010 to 2018 and continues to account for the highest sectoral share of Philippine gross domestic product at 17%.
In 2019, however, the sector has slowed down to an average of 3.7% for the first three quarters (compared to 5.6% in the previous year) due to a number of factors, including the delayed passage of the national budget, firms holding off production activities and expansion plans while deliberations on incentives reform were ongoing, and the impact of the trade war between the country’s major trading partners, the United States and China.
The session will review the state of the Philippine manufacturing sector in light of recent domestic and global developments impacting its performance. It will explore how the public and private sectors can further advance the growth of Philippine industries, improve the competitiveness of Filipino firms, and enhance the achievement of inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the country.

SESSION 2: PHILIPPINE MANUFACTURING AND
 AGRIBUSINESS IN 4IR
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is disrupting production processes and business models among firms, supply chains within industries, and value chains across the globe. The emergence of 4IR technologies are opening up opportunities for enhancing efficiency while at the same time presenting challenges for pushing productivity to higher levels.
In the Philippines, most industries are still transitioning from Industry 2.0 to 3.0, with some taking steps towards digitalization and smart manufacturing. While 4IR technologies are increasingly being adopted in more advanced countries, the Philippines needs to create the necessary conditions and enabling environment to support firms and industries transition smoothly to new technologies.
This session will discuss the ways by which firms in the Philippine manufacturing and agribusiness sectors can adapt to the changing industrial landscape brought about by 4IR. It will also consider how MSMEs can prepare for future production through Industry 4.0 and employ technologies for sustainable industrial activities.

SESSION 3: SKILLS AND HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT FOR FUTURE PRODUCTION
The economy of the future requires a workforce equipped with the technical knowledge and digital skills to perform tasks and jobs that are being redefined by the 4IR. The use of Industry 4.0 technologies necessitates the reevaluation of human resource development programs and redesigning these towards better preparing the labor force for future production.

The session will delve into the impact of the 4IR on the world of work, the industrial workforce, and the future of jobs. It will look into addressing the challenges of working in an environment of cyber-physical systems, reskilling/upskilling of workers, and ensuring employability of the country’s human capital.
